History of Duxbury Oyster Company

Duxbury Oyster Company was established in 2000 by father and son team John and Patrick McCluskey. On a whim, the duo decided to take advantage of their proximity and access to Duxbury Bay, and carefully selected a site that would provide an optimal combination of fresh and salt water along with robust nutrients for our oysters to thrive and grow.

In 2014, Kevin Thomson joined the team, bringing a passionate devotion to aquaculture that became the driving force behind the success of the farm. John retired from the oyster business in 2022, leaving the business in Kevin’s capable hands. It was then that Kevin’s old college roommate, Joe Wendel, moved cross-country from CA to MA and came on board as a partner.

Today, Kevin and Joe continue to farm the exact grant that John and Patrick hand-picked twenty years ago. What started as a fun pastime to share these fruits of the sea with family and friends blossomed into a life-long love affair with oyster farming.
